Spotted: Jiro Horikoshi Chasing the Sky
Hey, Upper East Siders. If you thought your dreams were big, wait until you hear about The Wind Rises. Studio Ghibli’s It Boy, Hayao Miyazaki, gave us a story that’s less fantasy, more reality—yet still breathtakingly dreamy. And trust me, darlings, this one’s not about magical creatures or floating castles. It’s about something far more dangerous: ambition.
Jiro Horikoshi, our leading man, has one goal—creating the most beautiful planes the world has ever seen. But in a cruel twist of fate, his designs aren’t taking people on luxury getaways to Paris. Nope. They're destined for war. Talk about a dream turned nightmare.
And then, of course, there’s Nahoko—his one true love, who’s dealing with a ticking clock of her own. Their love story? Tragic, poetic, and the kind that makes you wish for a different ending. But as we all know, life isn’t a fairy tale. Not even in a Miyazaki film.
Visually, this film is pure art—every frame a masterpiece, every cloud painted with love. The animation? Divine. The music? Heart-wrenching, courtesy of the ever-iconic Joe Hisaishi. And the message? Well, it’s a tough pill to swallow. Because sometimes, the things we love the most come at the highest cost.
So, is The Wind Rises worth watching? Absolutely. Just prepare for heartbreak, existential dread, and a sudden urge to stare wistfully out of a window. Because in the end, the wind will always rise—but whether we soar or fall? That’s up to us.
XOXO,
Ghibli Girl
